Discussion with my PIDP partner Muhammad


My PIDP partner for this blog post was Muhammad.  We discussed the PID program from an HR prospective.  Muhammad has a vast background in HR and I was interested to get his point of view.

We both agreed that the program is under utilized by professionals outside of higher education circles.  We brainstormed about why this would be the case.  Muhammed had not heard of the program until his career took a turn into education.  Similarly, my experience trying to engage in the face-to-face option was met with the difficulty of local opportunities not having enough students enrolled for a course to occur. 

We agreed that advertising of the PIDP outside of the college community was lacking and the program is likely not being promoted to it's full potential.

Trends in Adult Basic Education

My previous post on trends in education touched  on open textbooks  I wanted to further discuss and bring recognition  to this project and its future implications for adult education accessibility.  The BC Open Textbook Project is funded by the BC Ministry of Advanced Education and managed by BC Campus ( http://urls.bccampus.ca/abefundmath1 ). "An open textbook is a textbook licensed under an open copyright license, and made available online to be freely used by students, teachers and members of the public. Many open textbooks are distributed in  either print, e-book, or audio formats that may be downloaded or purchased at little or no cost" ( Wikipedia ). My colleague Leanne Caillier-Smith at College of the Rockies is on the Advisory Committee for the Open Textbook Project dealing with Math at the fundamental level.  We have had numerous discussions on the success of the program and the affect that it is having with regards to education options and accessibility for adu
